Is the “pure cow ghee” in your kitchen actually adulterated with vegetable oil?
For millions of Indian households, Patanjali Cow Ghee is a staple. We buy it for its promise of purity, trusting the brand’s image of health and tradition. Whether it’s for our daily rotis or religious ceremonies, we assume we are paying for 100% cow ghee.
But a recent blind lab test investigation by the certification channel Trustified has revealed some disturbing results that every consumer needs to know.
🔬 The Investigation
Trustified is India’s first “100% Blind Testing” certification program. After testing major brands like Amul, ITC Aashirvaad, and Country Delight (which passed purity tests but failed on pesticide limits), they finally turned their microscope to the most requested brand: Patanjali.
They ordered the product anonymously from Amazon to ensure the sample was exactly what a regular customer receives.
❌ The Shocking Results
The video reveals that Patanjali Cow Ghee failed on two critical fronts where other leading brands had passed.
1. FAILED The Purity Test (Adulteration Detected) This is the biggest bombshell. The lab tests searched for Beta-Sitosterol, a compound found in plants but never in pure milk fat.
- The Result: Beta-Sitosterol was PRESENT.
- What this means: The presence of this compound indicates that the ghee has likely been adulterated with vegetable or plant-based oils.
- Note: The testing team was so shocked they sent a second sealed box from the same batch for re-testing, and it confirmed the same result.
2. FAILED The Safety Test (Pesticides) Like the other brands tested previously, Patanjali also failed the safety parameters. The lab found pesticide residues exceeding the safe limits set by the FSSAI.

⚠️ Why You Should Care
Out of the four leading brands tested by Trustified so far, Patanjali is the ONLY one to fail the purity test.
When we pay a premium for “Cow Ghee,” we expect dairy, not cheap vegetable oil. This report serves as a wake-up call: A big brand name is not a guarantee of purity. Real trust comes from transparent lab reports, not just marketing claims.
